Making a Door Less Open

Music inspired by hipster depressions.

Car Seat Headrest is a band I have liked for a very long time. Earlier records like Twin Fantasy or Teens of Denial are albums that belong in my all-time favourites list. Making a Door Less Open is another wonderful work. An album that is not so similar to the others. There are a lot more electronic textures and less guitar riffs. I love this change in the band. I would consider this a step towards a much more accessible sound, dare I say it’s a pop record!

Feeling like shit is the emotional baseline of the record. The band has always dealt with drug use and broken love stories in their lyrics. So it’s not even a surprise anymore. Nevertheless, the songs consist of great melodies and choruses to sing along to. Just listen to the song Martin or Can’t Cool Me Down. If there’s one song that should be left out, it’s Hollywood. But There Must be More Than Blood is the one slower song you want on every record. It’s a song that hooks me every time I hear it.

Why not dance to a life that’s worth nothing?
